A clinical trial was performed to determine the efficacy of Brahmi in the management of impaired mental functioning. One hundred and seventy two patients with mild, moderate or severely impaired mental abilities received Brahmi in syrup form (three doses per day, each containing 500 mg of crude Brahmi). The placebo was administered to 114 patients over the same time period. Electronic, memory span apparatus was used to measure the mental abilities of the subjects initially and after one year of the therapy. Brahmi significantly increased the concentration ability, memory span and overall mental performance of the subjects with mild to moderate degrees of mental deficiency. No adverse side effects were reported.
